
Juan Barba
Juan Barba joined Meridia Capital in September 2014 coming from SAREB (the management company of real estate loans and REOs from the troubled Spanish financial entities), where he was Head of Transactions, leading the divestment of SAREB’s portfolio – around 50 billion euros. At Meridia Capital he is responsible for implementing the real estate business strategy, with special emphasis on origination, deal execution, asset management and exit optimisation.
Prior to joining Meridia Capital, he was Principal at Doughty Hanson, a London-based private equity group, where he worked for six years covering Spain & Portugal. He mainly focused on value-added strategies for commercial real estate. Prior to that he was General Manager at Aareal Bank AG, a German specialised property lender, where he worked for seven years. He was responsible for banking operations in Spain & Portugal. Transactions included senior debt, mezzanine and equity finance. Before he had been at Principal Financial Group, where he worked in the US for nearly two years, and with the Arthur Andersen Real Estate team in Madrid.
Mr. Barba holds a degree in Law and a degree in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE E-3). He has been a Professor of Real Estate Finance in the Real Estate Master Programme at Instituto de Empresa (IE Business School) since 2000. He participated as a professor in the real estate programme of the Options & Futures Institute. He is a regular speaker at sector conferences and events.
